Gala Dinner at Brancaccio Palace │ENTER2017 eTourism Conference Rome CONCERT IN SAN MARTINO AI MONTI CHURCH AND GALA DINNER AT BRANCACCIO PALACE
Tuesday, January 24th 2017On Tuesday evening, you will enjoy a concert in the beautiful setting of the basilica of San Martino ai Monti followed by the Conference Dinner, taking place at Brancaccio Palace, the last Roman Patrician Palace built in 1880 in the heart of the Eternal city. Located on Colle Oppio, near Emperor Nero’s “Domus Aurea” and the seven hills, between Colosseum and the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
Princess Mary Elisabeth Field, the American wife of Salvatore Brancaccio, in 1879 relied on architect Gaetano Koch for the construction of the palace located in a beautiful, natural old park among roman ruins, centuries old plants and fountains, mixed by vegetable essence. In the Park you will have the chance to admire the small and charming Hunting Lodge turned into a Coffee House, rich in decorations and painted by Francesco Gai.
The cost of the Conference dinner is included in the registration fee except for students and accompanying persons, who may want to purchase it separately onsite.

Welcome Reception at Basilica f St. Paul Outside the Wall WELCOME RECEPTION AT THE BASILICA OF ST. PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALLS
Wednesday, January 25th 2017
The welcome reception will take place on Wednesday evening as an occasion for all participants to meet and interact. The venue is the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls, one of Rome’s four ancient, major basilicas along with the Basilicas of St. John in the Lateran, St. Peter’s and St. Mary Major. Once in the Basilica, you will be welcomed with a standing cocktail reception and will visit the Cloister (which dates back to the XIII Century) and the Basilica. On this day, the Catholic Church celebrates St. Paul’s conversion; this is a very significant occurrence for the Basilica and the Pope himself will be there to pray and celebrate this occasion. For those who wish to attend this celebration at the presence of the Holy Father in the afternoon of January 25th 2017, the conference secretariat provides free entrance tickets (upon request).
If you are curious about the history and architecture of the Basilica and the Cloister, you should take a virtual tour here. The cost of the Welcome cocktail is included in the registration fee. Accompanying persons can join the visit and the welcome cocktail by purchasing the ticket onsite.

Thursday, January 26th 2017
Beneath Palazzo Valentini we found a treasure and have given it new life.

The archaeological remains of ancient Roman houses uncovered beneath Palazzo Valentini are now on permanent display, adding to Rome’s already rich historical and artistic heritage.

A team of art historians, archaeologists and architects, all working for the Provincial Administration, worked on a project to research, restore and put these excavations on public display. The results are of exceptional significance, revealing an area that was of great importance in Roman times and which can help piece together the ancient, medieval and modern topography of Rome.

POST-CONFERENCE TOUR- CHRISTIAN ROME
Christian Rome and the Art of Mosaic AFTERNOON: GUIDED WALK TOUR: CHRISTIAN ROME AND THE ART OF MOSAIC
Friday, January 27th 2017
We will start with the visit of the Churches of San Nicola in Carcere, San Clemente and their undergrounds. San Nicola in Carcere, a church dating 1599, hosts an antique basalt bath containing the relics of martyrs. In the crypt there are the remains from the Temple of Juno Sospita, which is one of the very few temples in existence from the Republican era of Rome. The fourth-century basilica of San Clemente, with its magnificent frescoes and its twelfth- century mosaic of the Cross as the Tree of Life, was once a pagan temple.

We will then continue with the Christian Rome and the art of Mosaic. Keep walking is today’s motto!
A nice walk through the popular city district of Monti with special attention to the beautiful medieval mosaics of the churches of this quarter. The tour will begin from the hidden church of Santa Pudenziana, where we will admire the splendid mosaic of the fourth century. A must is then the Patriarchal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, real triumph of Roman and medieval mosaics, which, in addition to one of the four Holy Doors, contains the holy relic of the manger that was the first cradle of Jesus. We will then visit the church of Santa Praxedes, with its furnitures and the incredible chapel of Zeno, with glittering Carolingian mosaics of the ninth century. In the end, the cherry on top will be the church of San Pietro in Vincoli which according the tradition, hosts the chains the apostle Peter was imprisoned with, and where we will admire the famous and magnificent Moses of Michelangelo.
